The Asamankese Circuit Court presided over by His Honour Abass Abubakari Adams has sentenced a 31-year-old farmer to ten years imprisonment in hard labour for possessing narcotic drugs contrary to section 37(1) of Narcotic Control Commission Act 2020 (Act 1019).
Kofi Owusu, popularly known as PK was also fined ¢120,000.00, in default, he will serve additional three years imprisonment.
According to the Prosecution officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, C.T Apronti, on 11th June 2021 at 1 am in Akroso, Police Personnel from Akyem Oda Divisional Command retrieved 31 parcels of dried plant materials suspected to be Indian hemp during petrol duties.
The Prosecution statement said the accused person was driving a taxi with Registration number GX 1709-20 and upon search, the Police retrieved the suspected drugs in a fertilizer sack.
The suspected drugs were sent to Police Forensic Crime Laboratory in Accra for further information and it was confirmed that it is Indian hemp.
