Bekwai Circuit Court has remanded a 38-year-old farmer for butchering his wife and locking her in a room
The accused, Thomas Peprah alias Piero will reappear before the court on July 29, 2021.
The victim Joyce Tei and the accused Thomas Peprah are both farmers and the married couple living together in a farming community called Nkran near Jacobu in the Ashanti Region.
They have five children. The youngest child is currently 8 months old.
But after the birth of the youngest child, the accused has been pestering the victim with the accusation of having extramarital affairs with another man which the wife has been denying.
On July 15, 2021, at about 4:30am, the accused woke the victim up and confronted her with the same accusation.
This resulted in a serious misunderstanding in which the accused became infuriated and pulled a machete he has hidden under the bed to inflict multiple wounds on the victim.
She screamed for help but the accused locked the door of the room to prevent anyone from rescuing the victim who was bleeding profusely.
Their 17-year-old son who was sleeping in another room upon hearing the agony of the mother banged the door in an attempt to get it opened for him to attend to his mother but to no avail.
He rushed to call another tenant in the house that came to support him to break into the room.
The boy overpowered the father, picked the machete, and inflicted a cut on the back of his father’s head before they were able to rescue the victim who to St Peter’s hospital but was referred to Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Police upon receipt of information rushed to Nkran village where the accused was lying in a pool of blood
He was also rushed to St Peter’s Hospital where he was admitted, treated, and discharged on July 18, 2021.
He was charged for causing harm and put before Bekwai Circuit court on Friday, July 23, 2021.
The court presided by His Honour Mark Diboro remanded the accused to police Custody to reappear this week.
