Residents and traders in Adawso, Okragyei, Asubone Odumase, Nketepa and Amartey in the Kwahu South District of the Eastern Region have expressed frustration over the poor condition of their main roads, which are vital for the transportation of agricultural produce.
The towns, known for producing key crops such as onions and peppers, play a significant role in Ghana’s agricultural sector, yet the roads remain in a deplorable state.
The situation worsens during the rainy season when trucks and vehicles find it difficult to transport crops and other goods to market centers.
Farmers fear the bad roads are affecting their ability to get their produce to buyers in major cities and towns across the country.
Nketepa, a popular market town that draws traders from Accra, Kumasi, Koforidua, Ada, Mpraeso, Nkawkaw, and parts of the Volta Region, is particularly affected.
Market days in Nketepa bring in people from all over Ghana to trade goods and services, but the poor roads make transportation a challenge, discouraging some traders from participating.
“Why are these roads still in such bad condition? Are we not part of Ghana?” one frustrated trader asked, echoing the concerns of many in the region.
Residents and traders are calling on the government to address the issue urgently, stressing that improved road infrastructure is crucial for boosting local trade, supporting the agricultural sector, and enhancing the overall development of the district.
