Father Michael Quaicoo, Director of Governance, Peace, and Justice at the Catholic Bishops Conference, has paid glowing tribute to the late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, describing him as a dedicated Catholic and a patriotic citizen. He made these remarks during an interview on Bryt FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem, hosted by Nana Yaw Obeng.
According to Father Quaico, Dr. Omane Boamah was not only a committed member of the Catholic Church but also a supportive and active participant in church activities. “He was always ready to help, and his actions consistently reflected his values. The President even praised him for his good work,” Father Quaico said.
He further recounted Dr. Boamah’s recent involvement in a national Catholic event focused on youth unemployment and its security implications. “Just a month ago—actually, tomorrow will be exactly one month—we organized a national forum on youth unemployment. Dr. Boamah and some ministers were invited. At 3:00 a.m. that day, he was still texting me, updating about the program and informing me that the President had called an emergency meeting. He assured me he would still attend—and he did. He kept his word and addressed us at the event,” he recalled.
Father Quaico said that after the program, Dr. Boamah pledged his full support for any future initiatives by the Church. “He promised that anytime the Church needed his input or support, he would be available.”
The priest also mentioned that exactly a week ago, during the Catholic Bishops’ August Plenary Meeting held in Accra, there was a consensus among the bishops to meet Dr. Omane Boamah. “We had observed how actively he was working with national leaders to support the development of our country. His name was included on the list of people the bishops intended to engage,” he revealed.
Father Quaico concluded his tribute by expressing deep sorrow over Dr. Boamah’s passing. “We have lost someone who wanted to see the Church grow, the nation prosper, and who used his knowledge to support the needy. He was always ready to help everyone. This is the kind of person we have lost,” he said.
