Food and Drugs Authority Ghana has responded to the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) over testing Indomie noodles products to ascertain the authenticity of claims by the Taiwan and Malaysian governments that a variety of the products contains ethylene oxide (“EtO”), a cancer-causing chemical linked to lymphoma and leukaemia.
Food and Drugs Authority Ghana has noted a story on NAFDAC’s probe into brands of noodle on the Nigerian market.
“The FDA wished to inform the public that it has not approved the importation of noodles from Malaysia and Indonesia. Currently, market surveillance has not found any noodles on the Ghana market from these countries” the authority emphasised.
It added “The only Instant Indomie Chicken Noodle available in Ghana is locally manufactured, either in Ghana or Nigeria”.
“The FDA therefore wished to assure the public that it will continue its surveillance activities to safeguard food safety in Ghana”.
