There is an intense fear that Coronavirus could spike and ravage Nkurakan a densely populated Community near Koforidua the Eastern Regional Capital if residents continue to disregard Covid-19 preventive protocols.
The concern comes after the community confirmed its first positive case of Coronavirus on July 19, 2020.
Nkurakan Community is a busy market area in the Yilo Krobo Municipality.
The health officials say “Stakeholders have woefully failed us in fighting the pandemic hence our destinies are in our hands to inappropriately fight the pandemic.
“Inappropriate observation of the safety protocols individually. Eg. Wearing of nose mask at our chin instead to cover the rightful place, No individual education and practicing of the protocols, leaving people highly prone to contracting the virus at our market by grossly throwing away all measures to curb the spread of the virus.” A statement issued after an emergency stakeholders’ meeting said.
The statement added that “Drivers have been deliberately allowed by their superiors to grossly turn-off all protocols to be observed before/during/after boarding a vehicle to and fro the community.
“Some organizations like churches, funerals, weddings, etc. have closed their eyes to the high-risk of the pandemic and disregard all safety protocols in the endeavors. Naïve people have found their ways to attach mere myths like there is nothing we call ‘’COVID-19’’, they are not animals to be wearing masks always, the virus is mean for only the high rated people, etc to the pandemic.”
There is also concern over” inadequate education to the public by the health personnel. Way forward to curb the Pandemic Stakeholders within the Nkurakan Township is to implement a firm law which will deal with recalcitrant against the observation of safety protocols concerning the pandemic.”
Churches and organizations within the Township have therefore been directed to ensure tense safety protocols at their gatherings to curbing the further spread of the virus. Authorities of the market must be a sermon to be educated on the latest development.
Inspections must be made a week before any public gathering to ensure all safety protocols are in perfect place before the proceeding of such gathering being funeral, outdooring, wedding, etc.
The various household must start practicing safety protocols at individual homes by placing their ‘’Veronica buckets’’, soaps, sanitizers, sanitary pads, etc just at the entrances of the various homes and ensure everyone observes the protocols before getting in/out of the house”
It was also recommended that “random visitations will be made by the health personnel at any public gathering being church, wedding, funeral, etc to ensure the observations of the safety protocols. Failure to observe the protocol by such gathering, a sanction will be impose on the gathering to halt it and any attempt to continue such gathering will attract the reference of the security agencies for law enforcement.
Individuals must also take it upon themselves to educate each other on the pandemic. Groups in the churches and other organizations must find ways and means to educate its members on the pandemic hence the latest development at Nkurakan.
Also “Stakeholders must appeal to the information centers to be playing jingles which were giving to them to educate the public on the pandemic in our local dialect.”
Health officials reminded residents that health workers at the Nkurakan Facility have opened their doors to be called upon to give further education when needed by any gathering or group.
