Sampson Ahi, Member of Parliament for Bodi Constituency and a Committee Member on Food, Agriculture, and Cocoa Affairs, has raised concerns over Ghana’s heavy reliance on imported food items despite having vast fertile lands.
Speaking on Bryt Adekye Mu Nsem with Kwamina Sam Biney, he highlighted that Ghana continues to import essential crops like tomatoes, onions, and maize from Burkina Faso, Niger, and other neighboring countries, even though the country has a natural advantage in agricultural production.
According to Mr. Ahi, this dependence on imports drains the nation’s economy, a key reason why the government is pushing for the Feed Ghana Initiative. He urged all Ghanaians to actively participate in the program to boost local food production, reduce reliance on foreign supplies, and save the country millions in food import costs.
The initiative, which is set to be launched soon, aims to position Ghana as a self-sufficient agricultural powerhouse, leveraging its fertile lands to ensure food security and economic growth.
