Deputy Lands and Natural Resources minister, George Mireku Duker received a delegation from the Gwira Traditional Council from the Western Region on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at the Ministry.
The Paramount Chief of Gwira Traditional Area and Acting President of the Regional House of Chiefs, Awulae Angama Tuagyan II speaking on behalf of the delegation stated that, illegal mining activities of one Okobeng Mining Company Limited is threatening the existence of the entire traditional area.
The Paramount Chief further indicated the numerous havoc caused by Okobeng Mining Company can no longer be tolerated and hence, calling on the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to immediately act, failure of which, they will will be forced to act themselves.
The Deputy minister also assured the delegation of government’s commitment in ensuring that, Mining is undertaken everywhere without being a threat to the environment and the lives of the people.
