Mr Kwaku Duah, the Ashanti Regional Organiser for Small Scale Miners Association has called on President Akufo-Addo to offer the necessary support, legal backing and direction to the Association to fight illegal small scale mining popularly known as ‘galamsey’ in the country.
According to him, the Association has about One hundred and fifty (150) taskforce personel in mining regions and can recruit more to fight galamsey if the necessary support is given.
Speaking at a press conference, Mr Kwaku Duah assured that, the Association would prevent the destruction of the environment, particularly water bodies, vegetation cover and other natural resources for sustainable development.
He, however, urged the public to desist from politicizing the fight against galamsey since that gave the offenders hope to destroy land and water bodies.
