Filmmaker Priscilla Owusu has explored the history of boxing in Ghana’s Bukom town in her documentary.
The documentary, The City of Bukom, looks into the town that is the birthplace of many boxing world champions.
Owusu explores the challenges the town faces in its attempt to keep the conveyor belt of world champions turning.
“Trying to obtain archive footage was hard and this is why it is so vital to document our history,” she told the BBC’s Focus on Africa.
Owusu lived up to the resilience of Bukom boxers during the production as her footage was accidentally deleted and she had to retrieve it and edit the documentary from scratch.
Ghana has produced several world champions in boxing and Bukom’s boxing history dates back to the 1950s.
