The family of the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah in Koforidua Effiduase , who perished alongside seven others in last week’s tragic military helicopter crash, has announced that his final funeral rites will be held in Koforidua.
According to Nana Adusi Pokua Antwiwaa II, the Koforidua Effiduase Mponuahemaa who is leading the bereaved family in engagements with the government, the family has agreed to allow the state to bury Dr. Omane Boamah in Accra, in line with official protocol.
However, she stressed that both the 40-day observance and the final funeral rites will take place in Koforidua, where the late minister was born and raised.
Nana Adusi Pokua Antwiwaa II also revealed that the family is hopeful a statue of Dr. Omane Boamah will be erected at the Effiduase Roundabout, which they want renamed “Dr. Omane Boamah Roundabout” in his honour.
They also want part of the new Eastern Regional Hospital be named after him when completed.
Meanwhile the Mponua family is preparing to leave to Accra on Friday for the one week observation ceremony to be held by the state.
The helicopter crash claimed the lives of Dr. Omane Boamah, Environment, Science and Technology Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong, NADMO Deputy Director-General Samuel Aboagye, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.
