The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, and his Wife Angela Ofori Atta have built and handed over a six-unit bedroom accommodation flat to the Kyebi Government Hospital in the Eastern region.
The edifice was built through Ken and Angela Ofori-Atta’s foundation under the auspices of Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin.
The handing over ceremony was held in Kyebi on Friday 13th, August 2021.
Barima Kwaku Duah, who is Etwienanahene of Akyem Abuakwa on behalf of the Ken and Angela Foundation, stated that the foundation noticed the staff accommodation challenges at the hospital which serves about three Municipalities hence the intervention.
He said the foundation has already provided vehicles and other medical logistics to the hospital to improve quality healthcare.
He believes the accommodation facility will go a long way to encourage clinicians posted to the hospital to accept the posting.
The Regional estate Officer of the Ghana Health Service Mr. Gordon Anarfo, who represented the Regional Director of Health Services, thanked the Ken and Angela Ofori-Atta foundation for the gesture.
He said government alone cannot fix the accommodation challenges facing the healthcare sector therefore commended Ken and Angela Foundation for their intervention.
He encouraged other organizations to come on board.
The Medical Superintendent of Kyebi Government Hospital, Dr. Richard Nii Darku Dodoo, said the hospital has faced serious accommodation challenges over the years
According to him, out of the four medical doctors at the hospital, two have been housed in rented temporal accommodation for a year in Asikam.
However, said, “The newly posted dentist is yet to assume duty because of a lack of housing”.
He hinted that the hospital spends a significant amount of its internally generated funds on renting apartments for “critical” staff therefore the intervention by the Ken and Angela Foundation would go a long way to resolve this problem.
Barima Gyansie Korie who represented Okyenhene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin commended Ken and Angela Ofori-Atta Foundation for donating this facility to the Kyebi Government Hospital.
He pleaded with the hospital’s management to ensure that the building is maintained adequately. He pledged the traditional councils’ continuous commitment to partnering with development partners to bring more development to Akyem Abuakwa.
Present at the ceremony were the Abontidomhene of Kyebi Osabarima Marfo Kwabrane, Abuakwa South Municipal Health Director, Augustina Nartey, some staff and management members, as well as the Kyebi Executive Council members.
