Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has inaugurated the Governing Board of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), charging members to restore public trust and ensure accountability in Ghana’s capital markets.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Accra, Dr. Forson said he was exceedingly pleased to see the board come to life at a time when Ghana’s economy is recovering from significant stress.
“Our people are worried. The taxpayer cannot be used as a punching bag, and the public must no longer bear the burden of regulatory failures in the financial sector,” the Minister stressed.
He urged the newly inaugurated board to act with integrity and focus in fulfilling their mandate, particularly in protecting investors, promoting transparency, and safeguarding the soundness of the capital market.
Dr. Forson emphasized the importance of the SEC’s role in rebuilding confidence and restoring dignity to Ghana’s financial landscape.
The newly inaugurated board is chaired by Dr. Adu Anane Antwi, a former Director-General of the SEC, who expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve once again.
He pledged to work with his colleagues to uphold the highest standards of market regulation and investor protection.
