Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang addressed the first Annual National Forum on Women in Government and Media, convened under the theme: Leadership, Visibility and Public Trust with a call for reflection, responsibility, and renewed commitment to democratic governance.
In her remarks, the Vice President underscored the importance of women coming together to reflect on their individual journeys and to remain mindful of the many young women who look to them as examples of possibility and progress.
She noted that leadership is not confined to formal titles, but often begins with the simple yet powerful acts of listening, mentoring, and offering encouragement.
Highlighting the central role of the media in shaping national consciousness, she emphasized that visibility influences power and directs public narratives, while leadership carries an enduring responsibility. Women in journalism and public office, she stated, hold significant influence in shaping standards, strengthening accountability, and elevating credible voices. In many respects, she observed, the media serves as a classroom for society, setting meaningful benchmarks for integrity and public discourse.
The Vice President further stressed that women must have confidence in their abilities, affirming that institutions that create space for women in decision-making are stronger, more inclusive, and more impactful. She encouraged women serving in public office and journalism to recognize their critical role in reinforcing democratic governance and advancing public trust.
