Five persons are in critical condition after a near-fatal accident that occurred Sunday afternoon on Akuapem Apirede to Somanya road.
The accident involved a Kia Bongo Truck with registration number GE 7936-Y from Koforidua heading towards Apegusu in Asuogyaman District.
The truck was loaded with furniture and foodstuff with five persons including the driver aboard.
However, the truck failed to break while descending the mountain causing it to veer off the road and crash into a tree in a ditch.
The four passengers were easily rescued at a nearby hospital by residents who rushed to the scene however the driver was trapped in the mangled vehicle.
It took the intervention of the Fire Service Rescue Crew led by ASTNO Ernest Achisey and his Crew from Somanya to extricate and rescue the driver to the hospital.
Efforts were ongoing to salvage the goods which were being transported.
