Former Ghana international Laryea Kingston has praised Black Stars players and technical team after putting up a five-star performance to eliminate Nigeria in the World Cup play-off.
The Black Stars held the Super Eagles to a 1-1 draw which secured them a spot at the Mundial in Qatar this year’s after qualifying with 1-1 aggregate.
Arsenal star Thomas Partey opened the scoring of the decisive game after 10 minutes at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong converted a penalty to draw the Super Eagles level after a VAR decision in the 22nd minute.
In an interview with Kwaku Sarpong Sarkodie of Koforidua-based Bryt FM, the former Hearts of Oak star showered praises on the players and the technical team for the marvelous work they did against Nigeria.
“Ghanaians lost confident in the team after poor performance at the AFCON 2021 but for the first time in many years, I saw a Black Stars team that were determined to do something. I’m so proud of the boys and the technical team because they fought really well”
“We were very good in our transition and that helped us to score in the early stages of the game. I realized it was going to be our day after Partey’s early goal, we defended well before the break”
“I’m proud of our technical team because after 60 minutes when things were not going as expected they introduced some players which worked for us. The technical team had their substitutions right, I’m so happy, Ghanaians around the globe are happy” he said.
Ghana is expected to know their group opponents on Friday, April 1, 2022 in Doha, Qatar.
The four-time African Champions are in pot 4 with Kurt Okraku and other Ghana FA officials expected to fly out of the country for the 72nd congress in Qatar.
The Black Stars team on Wednesday met Ghana President Nana Akufo-Addo after securing qualification to the World Cup over noisy neighbours Nigeria.
