Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko winger, Michael Osei ‘Ember Power’ Asante Kotoko hero Frimpong Manso has implored the newly constituted board of directors of the club to build a vibrant academy structure for the porcupine warriors.
According to him, a chunk of the most successful clubs in the world can boast of a proper academy and has, therefore entreated the club to focus on putting up a strong academy that will produce talents in order to rule the continent again.
Michael Osei known with his pace during his hey days is encouraging his former outfit to be keen about the youth policy as he strongly believes it will go a long way to benefit the club.
Speaking to Hello FM in Kumasi, he said, “One thing we should have done a long time ago is the academy. Look around the world, the most successful clubs have a vibrant academy. Let’s try and remember Herbert Mensah and coach Ernst Middendorp era where they picked Osei Kwame, Michael Ofosu Appiah (CID), Kwadwo Poku, Akwaffo and others for the Kotoko youth team. At the twilight of our career with Kotoko they replaced us”
“It’s the number one policy Kotoko should embark on. Kotoko should start doing it. I’m not saying Kotoko shouldn’t buy big players, even TP Mazembe do it although they have an academy”
“We also can sell some of them and not depend on the supporters always. Imagine what the club will get if we sell at least three players for 500, 000 dollars every year. It’s the number one priority Kotoko should do now” he said.
