Former President John Dramani Mahama marked his 65th birthday with a meaningful visit to the Shai Osudoko District Hospital, demonstrating his commitment to healthcare and the well-being of Ghanaians.
Responding to an urgent appeal from the Medical Director of the facility, Mr. Mahama made a substantial donation of much-needed medical equipment.
The contribution included two modern incubators, two phototherapy machines, and four CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machines, offering vital support to the hospital’s neonatal care unit.
Expressing their gratitude, the medical staff at the hospital, led by Medical Director Dr. Kennedy T. C. Brightson, acknowledged the unexpected speed with which Mr. Mahama’s donation arrived, just two days after his advance team visited and assessed the hospital’s needs.
Accompanied by his children and staff from his office, Mr. Mahama took a moment to thank his wife and the Lordina Foundation for facilitating the acquisition of the medical equipment. He expressed his joy in returning to what he referred to as his “favorite hospital environment” to celebrate his milestone birthday.
The Shai Osudoko District Hospital, inaugurated in April 2016 during Mahama’s presidency, stands as a testament to the former leader’s commitment to improving healthcare accessibility in Ghana.
The 120-bed hospital was the pioneer in a series of district hospitals initiated by the Mahama government, aiming to establish first-class health facilities in every district across the nation.
In addition to the medical equipment, Mr. Mahama extended his generosity by providing essential items to patients, nursing mothers, and hospital staff.
The donated items included 150 bags of rice, 50 bags of sugar, detergents, 200 packs of soft drinks, 200 packs of water, 40 boxes of biscuits, 35 boxes of cooking oil, 20 boxes of tomato paste, 90 school bags, and 100 packs of baby diapers.
