The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, Professor Kwasi Opoku Amankwa has said the Government; through the Director-General of Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET) will soon announce the inclusion of TVET into the semester system.
He said this is will be in line with the newly-introduced semester-based academic calendar for public Kindergarten, Primary, and Junior High from the 2022 academic year.
Second and third-year students in second-cycle schools will be heading back to school on February 7, 2022.
According to a Ghana Education Service release, the first years have a tentative reopening date of April 4, 2022.
All students in basic schools returned to school on January 18.
Also, the Ministry of Education (MoE) has included 139 Technical and Vocational (TVET) schools in the popular free SHS program, the National Coordinator for Computerized School Selection Placement System (CSSPS) In addition to the 47 schools already on the program, the new included Technical and Vocational schools.
Deputy Education Minister in charge of TVET, Gifty Twum-Ampofo has said, students under Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) next year will write an examination conducted by WAEC.
She speaking to journalists said the WAEC examination slated next year for the Technical and Vocational students will also reduce cases of them struggling to get admission to various tertiary institutions apart from technical universities.
Mrs. Gifty said the government was positioning TVET education as a project focus by improving the quality of training through a more demand-driven direction that would upgrade the skills set of both students and teachers.
