The fumigation exercise that was carried out on Saturday 4th April 2020 across all market centers in the Eastern region has been described as successful.
The exercise that was carried out across the thirty-two (32) municipal and district assemblies is to disinfect the markets against diseases in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Nsawam/Adoagyiri municipality was, however, left out of the exercise because the municipality’s markets had already been sprayed.
Deputy Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Nana Kwasi Adjei-Boateng, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for New Juaben North constituency retreated the essence of the exercise indicating that it would go a long way to keep the markets clean from all diseases.
He emphasized that the exercise has become necessary considering the quick spread of COVID-19 in the country over the past weeks which has been pronounced as a global pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
New Juaben North Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Madam Comfort Asante, on her part commended President Akufo-Addo and all the other stakeholders for their commitment to ensuring markets across the country are fumigated.
She indicated her outfit has since its creation prioritize sanitation and that a lot has been done to improve the healthy lifestyle of the people in order to do away with all diseases related to poor sanitation within the municipality.
“I am entreating all and sundry to abide by the precautionary measures put out by the President and our health professionals. We must always wash our hands with soap under running water and also apply a sanitizer to help deal with the spread of the disease” the MCE insisted.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Mr. Daniel Kwaku Darko warned residents to abide by all laws related to sanitation as offenders would be dealt with accordingly.
He again, assured residents that his outfit would continue to take good initiatives and programs that will continuously engage the people on the need to observe personal hygiene, especially in the rainy season.
