Following last week’s targeted raid by the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) and subsequent press briefing, a NAIMOS monitoring team returned to the Akyem area, one of the key sites of last week’s raids. The findings are encouraging.
Initial monitoring reports from the Abesim area near Akyem Akropong indicate no resumption of illegal mining activity.
Visuals from the area show that the River Owura, a tributary of the Birim River is now seeing much-needed relief, with visibly improved clarity and reduced turbidity.
This period of respite has allowed the river to begin recovering, marking a significant victory for the community and our environment.
The progress demonstrates that sustained enforcement can yield positive results, and the commitment of the NAIMOS team to this cause remains unwavering.
