Bernard Allotey Jacobs, the former Central regional chairman of the largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has accused the government of being to fault for the unchecked operations of galamsey across the nation.
According to him, “there is no political party in this country that can absolve itself from the galamsey activities. There is no Chief in this country because I remember in the late 70s, there was a massive rise of galamsey at Tarkwa Atuabo”.
“We were playing with it; lip talks, lip services are what have driven us to this state today,” he said while discussing the menace on Peace FM’s morning show “Kokrokoo”.
He emphasized that because the politicians just give lip service to removing it, galamsey has grown stronger, making its struggle challenging.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo yesterday received assurances from the National House of Chiefs that they are fully behind his administration’s efforts to take proper action against anyone engaged in unauthorized small-scale mining (also known as galamsey) in the nation.
