The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Ishmael Ashitey, and his entourage on Friday visited troubled Dome Faase Community where rampaging residents brutalized two military officers guarding a disputed piece of land.
The Minister paid a Courtesy call on Chiefs to assure them of government commitment to restoring peace to the area.
The Minister also assured the Chiefs and people of the area that thorough investigation will be conducted to establish the root cause of the disturbance and deal with the land litigation feud between the Akyems and the Ga people to ensure it is resolved.
The Minister said as part of the peace process, he will ensure residents arrested by Police are granted bail.
Nonetheless, he condemned the action of the youth
“We have to go very deep and find out what the root cause is. What happened, who instructed this to be done, does the person own the land, is this land for the Akyem People or the Gas. We will see all these and conclude. Meanwhile, I am going to discuss with the police to release those boys who have been arrested on bail so that later we see what we can do about that. I mean such things should not happen. I will brief the Chief of staff about it on what took place. I will be meeting the Chiefs of this area to find a permanent solution to the problem. It is not a very good thing the people who did that have not acted well and we should not try to bring politics into it.”
Omankrado of the Obom Traditional Area, Nii Addo welcomed the visit by the Minister and the Ga Mantse stating that it is any indication, the President is concerned about happenings in the area hoping swift measures will be taken to resolve the impasse to avert reoccurrence.
He condemned the action of the youth.
Meanwhile, residents of Done Faase who fled the Community as hundreds of armed military sieged the Community are returning to their homes after the military personnel were withdrawn.
