In a continued effort to foster partnerships, the Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection (MoGCSP), Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, paid a working visit to the UN Resident Coordinator’s office on Wednesday, 5th February 2025.
This visit served as an opportunity for the Minister to formally introduce herself to the various UN agencies including: UNICEF, UNFPA, FAO, WFP, UNDP, among others.
It was also to discuss the key priorities of the President of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama.
Welcoming the Minister, the UN Resident Coordinator in Ghana, Mr. Charles Abani, congratulated her on her appointment and outlined the UN’s operational focus on three key areas: Inclusive Development , Equitable Access to Services , and Peace & Security.
Mr. Abani reaffirmed the UN agencies’ commitment to collaborating with the Ministry and the Minister to help achieve the President’s vision for the sector.
He highlighted that sustainable financing, digitalization, and human rights issues would be at the forefront of their collaborative agenda.
Expressing her gratitude, Hon. Dr. Agnes Naa Momo Lartey commended the UN agencies for their dedication to improving livelihoods in Ghana.
She emphasized the Ministry’s intent to strengthen partnerships with UN agencies to ensure the successful implementation of the President’s 120-day agenda and broader social protection goals.
The Minister further revealed that a critical area of focus would be the collaboration with the Ministry of Education to fulfill the President’s vision of providing free tertiary education for Persons With Disabilities, ensuring they have equitable access to education without barriers.
Additionally, she pledged to enhance social protection programmes like the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) initiative and the School Feeding Programme to benefit a larger segment of Ghanaians.
“Where I sit, it’s not about me but about the welfare and improvement of the livelihoods of Ghanaians,” the Minister affirmed.
Accompanying the Minister were the Chief Director, Dr. Afisah Zakariah; Director of Policy, Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation, Mrs. Florence Ayisi Quartey; and Director of the Department of Gender, Madam Faustina Acheampong.
The meeting marked a pivotal step towards bolstering the collaboration between the MoGCSP and UN agencies, aimed at uplifting the most vulnerable in Ghanaian society.
