The Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, on Friday, April 11, 2025, inaugurated a 17-member Board of Trustees for the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) at a ceremony held at the Fund’s headquarters in East Legon.
The board consists of representatives from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, Ghana Education Service, GRA, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission and Ghana National Association of Teachers.
Also part of the board are representatives from Ghana Bankers Association, Ghana Insurers Association, NPRA, Christian Council, Association of Ghana Industries and Ghana Employers Association
Delivering his remarks, the Minister emphasized the critical role of GETFund in Ghana’s educational landscape, particularly in the areas of infrastructure development, scholarships, and the provision of teaching and learning materials. He underscored the statutory significance of the Board, noting that without its approval, no expenditure from the Fund can be undertaken.
Hon. Iddrisu noted that under the current administration, GETFund will serve as one of the sources of funding for the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme, ensuring its sustainability and effective delivery. He also encouraged the Board to engage strategically with key partners, including the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), private enterprises, and development organizations to enhance resource mobilization.
The Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to providing the necessary policy guidance and institutional backing to the Board, urging the members to lead with integrity, service, and patriotism.
The new Board is expected to play a central role in addressing infrastructure deficits, promoting equitable access to tertiary education, and supporting research and innovation through sustained and transparent funding.
