Ghana Airforce Military helicopter GHF C90 onboard with eight (8) crew members led by the pilot – Squadron Leader Boakye from Airforce Base in Accra safe landed at Donkokrom Agric Senior High School in Afram Plains North District on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at about 2:20pm for distribution of electoral materials.
The helicopter will also be used to airlift electoral officers and security personnel to island communities in both Afram Plains South and North constituencies early morning of Monday to ensure that the electoral materials and Personnel get to polling stations in the hinterlands before 7:00am and ensure they are lifted back.
The helicopter came in upon request by the Eastern Regional Police Command to help airlift electoral materials and Personnel to Island Communities to curb the usual delays that characterize elections on the Island Communities.
Ghana heads to the polls on Monday, December 7, 2020, to elect a president and 275 legislators. Early voting by security personnel and media took place Tuesday, December 1, 2020.
In all, 12 candidates including an independent Candidate have been approved by the EC to contest in the presidential election.
The presidential contest is mainly between the incumbent President and New Patriotic Party candidate Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and former President and National Democratic Congress’ John Dramani Mahama.
This is the third time the two political opponents will be contesting the presidential election.
Mahama won in 2012, while Akufo-Addo defeated him in the 2016 polls.
