The Embassy of Denmark is very excited to announce that Denmark and Ghana have entered into a new Strategic Sector Cooperation (SSC) project on Meteorology and Climate Science and Services.
The Director General of the Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) – Marianne Thyrring and the Director General of the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) – Eric Asumin, recently signed an MoU to commence the inception phase of the cooperation, up to September 2023.
The signing ceremony was witnessed by Ghana’s Ambassador to Denmark – H.E. Sylvia Annoh.
The SSC Meteorology and Climate Science and Services has the objective to support Ghana to make informed decisions for climate adaptation and sustainable socio-economic development.
This cooperation will also assist GMet to achieve its goal of becoming the lead meteorological and climate service provider within the sub-region.
GMet’s capacity will be strengthened for service delivery and an enhanced dissemination and communication of meteorological and climate data to stakeholders and users in Ghana as well as internationally.
One key interest to Ghanaians on this collaboration will be accurate weather forecasts and interventions to prevent incidence of floods and other climate related issues.
This SSC brings the total number of SSCs between Ghana and Denmark to 4 (Maritime; Urban Water; Statistics; and Meteorology and Climate Science and Services).
