The Department of Children – Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection in collaboration with UNICEF Ghana, held the second (2nd) meeting of the Ghana Child Protection in Emergency (CPiE) Working Group at the conference room of the Ministry’s on Thursday, 15th June, 2023.
CPiE Working Group, an emanation of the National Child Protection Committee (NCPC), is a forum through which organizations with child protection in emergency mandate and expertise in Ghana support the planning, coordination and implementation of interventions for emergency preparedness and response for children in emergency situations.
The 2nd meeting was purposely held to review the assessment tool on child protection in emergency framework, and plan towards the orientation and training of the district and regional officers on CPiE in the Upper East, Upper West, North East and Savannah regions.
The Ag. Director of the Department of Children, Mrs. Florence Ayisi Quartey, in her remarks, urged participants to continue to collaborate and build on their partnership to protect the Ghanaian child.
She also maintain the intention of the Department of Children to hold a 3rd meeting before the end of the year and expects to meet with United Nations organizations to brief them on the work of the CPiE working Group.
The Child Protection in Emergency Working Group is also mandated to create partnerships and synergies for prioritization of available resources with an overall goal to save lives and alleviate suffering; maintain human dignity and protect the rights of children to protection before, during, and after emergencies and to strengthen preparedness for a y future crisis considering all relevant child safeguarding issues.
