The Ghana Statistical Service has said it has demarcated the country into 51,755 enumeration areas (EAs) to facilitate the first digital Population and Housing Census when the ban on public gatherings is lifted.
It is also finalizing data collection instruments and training materials; gathering of geometry, accessibility and building indices for each district; and the virtual training of Master Trainers and Regional Data Quality Monitors.
This was announced by Professor Samuel Anim, the Government Statistician at a press conference in Accra.
He said the GSS has now developed and continues to implement, a comprehensive Business Continuity Plan in order to keep up with the decennial census calendar, including conducting virtual meetings and training activities.
The Statistical Service estimated the census cost at GH¢477 million and required the recruitment of over 60,000 people to undertake the 2020 Population and Housing Census.
Unlike the previous years, the 2020 PHC would be largely technology-driven, for which reason the right digital mechanisms had been put in place to address any bottlenecks relating to Internet fluctuation.
