The Volta River Authority has sustained the export of Power to four Neighboring countries for almost fifty years now, according to Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo.
Countries are Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso, and Cote d’Ivoire.
Speaking at the launch of the 60th Anniversary of VRA, Nana Yaw Osafo Marfo said he is impressed with the Authority’s culture of Excellent in engineering practices which is an example for Other State Institution.
He said VRA develop and continues to manage Akosombo Dam since 1961 and Kpone in 1982 hydropower generation plant which is key to the provision of Renewable power in the Country.
The senior Minister, who is also a mechanical engineer said VRA developed and implemented through some Innovative engineering and the extension of power from Kumasi to the Northern part of the country in 1989.
He noted that VRA has developed the first Thermal power plant in the Country to complement hydro generation and also ensured the reliability of power in the Country.
