The Ghana Health Service said the country is at great risk of recording high COVID-19 cases since a lot of Ghanaians have to stop wearing face masks.
The recent survey made by GHS has revealed that 14.4% of the population in the Greater Region wear a nose mask.
The Director-General of GHS, Dr Patrick Kuma- Aboagye, said this is the time that the nose mask-wearing should be intensified else Ghanaians will lose the fight against the pandemic.
“Greater Accra is the one that is driving the pandemic [in Ghana] and so it is extremely important that we reset and go back and start wearing the mask so that as active cases are coming down, it will continue to go down. We started with one case and now 43,000. Where we are now, we need to be very careful. That is our major worry, and we need to intensify the campaign (for wearing face masks),” he said.
However, the nose mask-wearing has been mandatory since the coronavirus pandemic was recorded in the country.
Meanwhile, an earlier report had indicated that 82% of the population had a face mask who had the intention to use them.
However, the survey showed that only 44.3% of them wore the mask correctly.
On Thursday, August 28, 2020, Ghana’s case count is at 43,841 with 270 deaths and the active case is 1,325.
