Ghana legend Mohammed Polo is calling for the sack of head coach of the Black Stars Milovan Rajevac following Ghana’s abysmal performance in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon which saw the teams exit at the group stage.
The West African powerhouse recorded their worse performance at the AFCON and their first exit in the group stage since 2006 after defeat to Comoros on Tuesday.
The four-time African Champions suffered a 3-2 defeat to AFCON debutants on Tuesday at the Roumde Adjia stadium.
Ghana will now have to wait until 2023 in the search of a fifth Africa Cup of Nations title.
In an interview with Sylvester Ntim of Bryt FM, Polo said, “If the leadership of the FA will allow Milo to stay, it’s up to them. If a Ghanaian coach had led the team to the AFCON, it would have been a learning curve for such a coach. The FA must look for a local coach who can lead the team”
“Milo called for re-enforcement prior to the tournament and brought in his compatriots but nothing better came out of it, so something must be done”
Asked if the FA must sack the Serbian trainer, he said, “Of course, a lot of teams at the AFCON came with local coaches so we must emulate them. Nigeria, Senegal and others came with local coaches and they are performing, so we must also give our own the chance” he said.
