Ghana Maritime Authority was in a meeting with the Ghana Industrial Trawlers Association (GITA) on Monday morning.
The meeting was at the invitation of GITA on the Fishing Vessel Personnel Workers Agreement developed by the Authority for use in the industry.
It also presented an opportunity to educate the Association on the provisions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) C-188 as Ghana prepares to domesticate it.
The Convention sets minimum standard requirements for the engagement of seafarers. The Authority’s Maritime Services Department, led the engagement through, Principal Officer, according to Mr Awudu Enusah.
Aspects of the Convention discussed were living and working conditions on vessels, wages and the health of seafarers.
