His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has presented his fourth State of Nation The Address, which he revealed that the country needs more engineers and technical-minded people to help transform the Ghana economy especially the education sector.
As a constitutional duty to update Ghanaians on the state’s affairs, the president touched on the free SHS policy stating that the first batch of the free Senior high students is getting ready to take the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and wish them to come out with flying colures.
He applauded teachers for supporting the numerous changes that had been introduced by his government and turning their dreams into reality.
“Many Ghanaians are happy to enjoy the free senior high school policy. We have constructed 962 facilities including dining halls, assembly halls, classroom blocks, dormitories together with the provision of Mono Desks and Beds,” says Nana Addo
The Gentleman of the land revealed that his government is trying to make Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) the first choice for students in the various schools. This he believes will ensure socio-economic and industrial development in the country due to the technical and professional skills, which would be acquired from enrolling into TVET.
His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo has urged teachers to stay calm as his government is doing everything possible to restore the dignity in the teaching profession by touching on the installing of teachers allowances and employment of 67,000 teachers.
“We had clear 92% of legacy arrears and we agree to grants teachers a professional allowance” he reveals.
