Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate, has declared that Ghana needs a dedicated leader to combat corruption.
Dr. Bawumia claimed to have a strong track record of combating corruption in Ghana through the digital transformation agenda.
He declared that the government payroll’s controller and accountant general department is free of ghost workers.
‘‘There no more ghost workers because everybody is identified by their fingerprint through the Ghana card and a ghost cannot have fingerprints. That is the end of the story for ghost workers in Ghana,’’ Dr Bawumia said in his first regional trip, which began on April 29, 2024, in the Eastern Region.
According to Dr. Bawumia, the government may save over 400 million Ghana Cedis annually by eliminating ghost names from its payroll.
The government’s drive toward digitalization has aided in the fight against increased levels of corruption in Ghana.
