The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service has disclosed that 263 people lost their lives in road crashes in April 2021.
According to the latest statistics, the figure represents a marginal increase in the number of deaths each month, since the beginning of the year.
It brings to a total 1,034 the number of fatalities on the road between January and April 2021.
Also, Road carnage claimed 222 lives in January 2020 alone, according to the Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD).
Commuters and pedestrians killed increased from 592 in the first quarter of 2018 to 696 in the same period of 2019.
A total of 2,284 lives were lost in 2019 based on provisional data compiled by the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD). In all 13,877 crashes were recorded involving 22,789 vehicles.
