The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Samuel A. Jinapor, MP joined the President of the Republic, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, at the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City, where the President delivered an inspiring address at the high level debate in what is his last address to the UN General Assembly as President of the Republic.
Within that same week, as co-Chair of the momentous Forest and Climate Leaders’ Partnership (FCLP), the Lands Minister participated in the New York Climate Week, which coincides with the UN General Assembly.
Subsequently to formal meetings of the FCLP, Hon. Jinapor held several engagements during the Week. At the Integrity Council for the Voluntary Carbon Market (ICVCM) and the Voluntary Carbon Market Initiative (VCMI)’s event on “Accelerating Climate Action: Delivering High Integrity Carbon Markets,” he delivered an address on the importance of mobilizing adequate finance to tackle the climate crisis, particularly for countries such as Ghana, that are highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.
As part of the engagement, the Lands Minister held a strategic meeting with the UK Under-Secretary of State at the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, Hon. Kerry Gillian McCarthy, where discussion centered on FCLP, the Leaf Coalition and Ghana’s plans for the energy transition.
At the high-level Ministerial meeting organized by the the UAE and Colombia, as part of preparations towards the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16), in Cali, Columbia, Hon. Jinapor strongly advocated for accelerating the climate-nature agenda for people and the planet, particularly, the need to mobilize finance and investment to scale up support for synergetic implementation of Ghana’s climate and biodiversity actions.
One of the highlights of the engagements was the signing of a Letter of Intent with the Government of the UAE.
