The Ghana Football Association are in talks with Austria for a possible international friendly as part of the Black Stars preparations for the upcoming 2026 World Cup tournament to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The global showpiece to be co-hosted in North America will feature an expanded 48-team format, with Ghana securing one of Africa’s nine automatic slots.
As the Black Stars gears up for their fifth World Cup participation, the Ghana FA intends to secure a number friendlies to equip the team before the mundial.
Having secured a friendly with Germany in March, the domestic football governing body has begun talks with several countries for friendlies, with Austria no exception.
“Austria is one of the teams we are talking to play after the Germany friendly game, and hopefully, when the contract is signed, we will make it official to the public,” Henry Asante Twum, the communications director of the Ghana FA told Sporty FM in an interview.
Drawn in Group L, Ghana will kick off their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, meet England in Boston, and wrap up the group stage against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
