The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has held orientation workshop for District Census Officers from the Eastern and Oti Regions.
The Prinicipal Statistican of GSS, Mr. John Foster Ogyaho said the orientation would train forty-one (41) district officers from the two regions with their mandate to educate people across the country on the census as well as help manage the field enumerators. He said, Ghana Statistical Service would employ about 130,000 field officers in the countrywide out of which 6,000 field officers would come from the Eastern Region.
In a welcome address, the Chief Director of Eastern Regional Coordinating Council, Mr. Korzie Sambo who represented the Eastern Regional Minister encouraged the District Census Officers to work hard and find ways and means to get information from the public. He asked them to adhere to the issue of confidentiality and also properly identify themselves wherever they go to people houses.
The Population and Housing Census would require individuals to give information on their age, gender, and level of education, marital, how they dispose their waste, place of convenience, bathing space and ICT usage. The information would enable government to plan properly and provide basic social services for the people.
