Former Asante Kotoko winger Joseph Amoako has been released from prison in Sweden after false rape charge.
Amoako had been serving a two-year prison sentence in the European country after being accused of raping a 16-year-old girl.
Following the charge in December 2022, the 19-year-old contract with Swedish club Helsingborg was terminated.
He had been sentenced to prison by the Helsingborg district court.
Following appeals, it was revealed the girl (complainant) lied and for that matter, the Ghanaian footballer was innocent, hence his release.
“They just released him yesterday from the prison after the appeal was made. The case was fake; the girl was lying. Upon appeal, Amoako has been released. It was all a fake story from the girl so he is now a free man,” his agent, Derrick D Thompson disclosed.
Amoako joined Helsingborg in early 2022 from Kotoko and has since made 9 appearances.
