Asiedu Nketia, the chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), has questioned Ghana’s dedication to combating corruption.
He thinks that the nation is not committed to combating the canker that is impeding its progress.
According to the man known as General Mosquito, the nation has all the necessary legislation to combat corruption; the main issue, however, is the leadership’s lack of commitment and resolve.
Speaking at the African Governance and Anti-Corruption Summit on June 25, 2025, at the University of Ghana, Asiedu Nketia hinted that the nation would keep dancing around the canker unless decisions were made in the battle against corruption.
“I think that if we are determined to fight corruption, we will get somewhere, but I don’t see Ghana determined to fight corruption. I don’t think that we do not have laws that will help us fight corruption, but the bigger problem is our determination and our commitment at the leadership level to fight corruption. I think that is the major deficit in our fight against corruption,” he stated.
“We all pretend to be fighting corruption, but we are actually not committed to fighting corruption. Everybody talks about the ills of corruption and the need to fight corruption but the decisions they have to take in the fight against corruption are lacking,” he remarked.
