Ghanaians are celebrating farmers in a separate durbar in Districts, Municipal and Metropolitan Assemblies today, 3rd December 2021.
This year’s celebrations began from 29th of November to the 3rd of December 2021 at Cape Coast, Central Region and the theme for celebrations is “planting for Food and Jobs – Consolidating Food Systems in Ghana”.
The climax of a Grand Durbar and Award Ceremony is today, Friday 3rd December 2021, and H. E Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo is the Special Guest of Honour.
The 37th edition of the National Farmers’ is organized by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) and the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (MoFAD).
MoFa and MoFAD who are jointly responsible for the planning of the National Farmers’ Day celebration have successfully organized the event over the years with the support of some partners despite various challenges. Appreciation to some key partners like – ADB, EXIM & Stanbic Banks who have consistently sponsored the first three prizes for the National Best Farmer category, and COCOBOD who takes care of the award of the cocoa sector.
“Farmers’ Day”, which began over 30 years ago, was instituted by the Government in 1985 in recognition of the vital role farmers and fishers play in the economy especially the highly commendable output of farmers and fishermen in 1984.
There was after the bad agricultural years of 1982 and 1983 so that year’s festivities were held in Osino in the Eastern Region, which was most affected by the drought.
