Many Ghanaians have expressed their disagreement over banning weddings while church services allowed in the latest restrictions Instituted to contain the spread of coronavirus in the country.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Sunday reimposed a ban on parties, weddings, and funerals in a bid to slow the rapid spread of the deadly Covid-19 in the country.
According to the President, private burials must not be more than 25 people with social gatherings and covid-19 preventive measures strictly in place.
Beaches, nightclubs, cinemas are also banned with restaurants encouraged to limit sit-ins for patrons.
“So, fellow Ghanaians, until further notice, funerals, weddings, concerts, theatrical performances, and parties are banned. Private burials, with no more than twenty-five (25) people, can take place, with the enforcement of the social distancing, hygiene and mask-wearing protocols”.
Beaches, nightclubs, cinemas, and pubs continue to be shut. Our borders by land and sea remain closed.
So far, 416 people have succumbed to the virus, 44 in critical condition, 170 severely ill with the currently active cases shooting up to 5, 358.
The President also urges churches and mosques to strictly implement covid-19 protocols adding that government will take delivery of the first covid-19 vaccines by March 2020.
However, the decision to ban weddings while Churches opened has been criticized by Ghanaians who have taken to social media to express their sentiments.
According to them, the same restrictions set out for Church service could be used for weddings. Instead, wedding receptions should have rather been banned.
