Many Ghanaians have shared their opinions about the first year of President John Dramani Mahama as the leader of the Government of Ghana. According to them, it is now exactly one year since he assumed office, and their main concern at the moment is youth employment.
Some citizens said that what the country needs now is job opportunities for the youth rather than just the reduction of the dollar. They acknowledged that it is only one year and that the President is still implementing his plans. However, they are watching closely to see what he will do in the remaining three years to support and improve Ghana.
Others expressed their support for him, stating that they are ready to give him good advice if only he listens to their concerns. They believe that with proper consultation and guidance, he can govern the nation well.
On the other hand, some traders complained that although the dollar has reduced, nothing has changed in the market. They said the prices of goods remain the same, and the way they used to buy products is still unchanged. According to them, reducing the dollar alone is not enough if the cost of items in the market does not also go down.
One citizen explained that the government announced a reduction in the price of rice, but it is only local rice that has been reduced. Imported rice and other brands still sell at the same price. They therefore urged the government to invest money wisely in development projects so that living conditions will improve.
Several people also said that the way Ghana is moving is not good when compared to other countries. They pleaded with the government to work harder to make Ghana better. They emphasized that they did not vote for leaders just to put money in their pockets, but to ensure national development.
Finally, the citizens appealed to Ghanaian leaders have been travelling all the time to other countries so they observe how things are done there, so they can apply the same strategies in Ghana and help transform the nation.
President Mahama was sworn into office on January 7, 2025 after a historic convincing victory in the December 2024 presidential election at the Black Star Square.
