The National Chairman for Ghana Road Transport Union (GPRTU), Nana Nimako Bresiamah has revealed that per the deregulation act, when fuel price is hiked more than ten percent (10%) then transport fares should be reviewed.
He reiterated that the government has therefore accepted that at every 10% increment on fuel price, stakeholders should work out the percentage and add to the previous fares adding that the new transport fares take effect on Saturday, 26th February 2022.
He has urged both drivers and passengers to accept any amount of increment that would be agreed upon by the various transport leadership.
Transport fares have been increased by 15% after consultations with all stakeholders after transport unions had earlier proposed a 30% increase.
However, most Ghanaians have expressed worry at the New development as they suggest the increment in transport fares would automatically affect the cost of living.
