Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Ernest Addison has revealed that Cocoa beans export rose by 30.3 percent to US$950.8 million, largely on the back of increased production volumes from October 2022 to April 2023.
He said Cocoa prices remained elevated during the first four months of 2023 driven mainly by lower production volumes from top grower Ivory Coast.
At US$2,612.80 per tonne in January 2023, cocoa prices rose by 13.0 percent on a year-on-year basis to US$2,924.37 per tonne in April.
Dr. Ernest Addison said this at a press conference in Accra.
Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) is forecasting about 750,000 tonnes of cocoa production in the 2022/2023 crop season.
This is expected to be higher than the 2021/2022 production.
Ghana achieved a historic feat of more than 1.14 million tonnes of cocoa production, about 45% increase in the 2020/2021 crop season.
