Director of Health Promotion at the Ghana Health Service, Dr Aboagye Da Costa attended Ghana’s Dyslipidaemia Summit 2022 organised by Novartis to intensify collaboration efforts.
Dyslipidemia or high cholesterol, means you have too many lipids (fats) in your blood.
This can lead to a heart attack or stroke because your blood has a hard time getting through your blood vessels.
It also deprives your brain and heart of the nutrients and oxygen they need to function.
At the summit, Dr Aboagye Da Costa mentioned that the Ministry of Health/Ghana Health Service has a strategy through a Health Promotion Wellness Program to deal with Non-Communicable Diseases like Cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and others.
He said the wellness programme will offer every Ghanaian the opportunity to do a health check at least once a year at the nearest health facility on their day of birth.
“Once your Ghana card is linked to your SIM and also NHIA/Ghana Health Service, all we will do is to call you from the GHS -Health Promotion helpline or send you a reminder through a text for you to go to the nearest health facility to undergo your health screening checks on your day of birth. Wellness and Medical records profiling through digitalisation will help facilitate better health and life expectancy outcomes” he stated.
He added “Again, the health checks will help to detect diseases, if any, at an early stage and appropriate intervention(s) provided. The programme will also promote healthy diets and physical activities. A healthy population is what we need for a productive and prosperous Ghana”.
