The Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has begun a four-day official visit to Beirut, Lebanon from Monday, 7th August, 2023.
To commence the visit, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey held a meeting with her Lebanese counterpart, H.E. Abdallah Bou Habib, during which both ministers highlighted the need to explore other areas for cooperation and collaboration.
Hon. Ayorkor Botchwey also held a meeting with the Speaker of Parliament, Hon.Nabih Berri, where they both discussed the importance of the recently established Ghana-Lebanon Parliamentary Friendship and called for more exchanges between the two countries.
The Minister finally held a meeting with the Minister of Interior, H.E Bassam Mawlawi, in the company of the Head of General Security, Mr. Elias Baissari. During the meeting both Ministers highlighted the importance of the relations between Ghana and Lebanon, especially with regards to the contribution of Ghanaian troops to the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) . The Minister expressed the hope that conditions would be made conducive for other Ghanaian workers in Lebanon.
Ghana established formal diplomatic relations with Lebanon on attainment of Independence. Lebanon was the second country that Ghana established diplomatic relations with in the Middle East. The official visit by Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey is to further strengthen the friendly and cordial relations between Ghana and Lebanon.
