Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea, Acting Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, met with the Ghana-Cuba Health Professionals Network 2019 Year Group to discuss their role in strengthening primary healthcare delivery.
During the meeting, the group’s president congratulated Prof. Kaba on his appointment. In his address, Prof. Kaba encouraged them to serve in deprived areas and outlined key incentives, including promotion out of turn and study leave for specialization after two years of service.
He also provided guidance on regions in need of Medical Officers to support their decision-making.
This initiative aligns with Ghana’s commitment to improving primary healthcare and achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
Notably, some members of the group have already begun working in various regions after passing the Medical and Dental Council Exams, while others await their postings.
Also present at the meeting were Dr. Caroline Reindolf Amissah, Deputy Director-General, and Dr. Lawrence Ofori Boadu, Director of the Institutional Care Division.
The Ghana-Cuba Health Professionals Network 2019 Year Group consists of medical officers who left Ghana in 2012 on a Government of Ghana scholarship to train in Cuba. They returned in 2019 after completing their studies and successfully sat for the Ghana Medical and Dental Council Exams.
