A leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome has expressed shock over the demise of former President Jerry John Rawlings and said Given the Power to the People was the greatest achievement of Rawlings.
According to Rawlings in 1992 gave the Power to Ghanaians to elect their own President and Members of Parliament which brought the Country into the fourth Republic and since then, Ghana has been a democratic State.
Speaking to journalists in Mr. Rawlings House, Mr. Agbesi Woyome said Rawlings despite being a Revolutionist and later elected under Constitutional rule from 1992 to 2000 handed over peacefully to Mr. John Agyekum Kufour.
He described Rawlings as a living legend and stressed the need for all Ghanaians to continue defending the Constitution brought by Rawlings and call for the proper way to amend it when the need arises through a referendum.
Mr. Woyome urged Ghanaians to protect the Rawlings legacy and acknowledge him for what he did for Ghana.
Former President Jerry John Rawlings died at the Korle-bu Teaching Hospital, after a brief illness. He was 73 years old.
